![]() SxSW 2006 & The Aussie Assault - Part 1 By: Australian Music Office 2006 marks the 20 year anniversary of the U.S Based music festival and conference South by Southwest (SxSW). Held in Austin Texas every March, this major industry event provides the opportunity for bands to showcase their music to key industry representatives, there's also a trade fair as well as seminars and speakers. It attracts 11,000 participants and over 1400 bands showcase in 50 venues over five nights. This year, 25 Australian bands and over 200 Australians took part. Led by Austrade's Australian Music Office, this year's so called Aussie Assault helped Australian artists strengthen their position in the lucrative US$13b U.S. music market. A 20 minute DVD of the event was produced for Austrade executives and it's been released here in segments courtesy of Austrade and roocast. This first episode explores some of the background of Austrade's involvement at SxSW. Click here, or copy and paste: http://roocast.com/feeds/sxsw2006.xml into your favourite podcatcher
In conjunction with the Music Managers Forum and VIC Music, the organisers of SxSW held a 'roadshow' at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne in early August. The evening was a six month 'heads up' to artists, managers, labels and music business professionals who either plan to attend SxSW March 14-18 2007 or bands who wish to apply to showcase at the event.
You can listen to the audio version of the evening's discussion as MP3 files. Download the files below.
